Mike Mattei is an award-winning optician and telescope maker who moved to Magdalena shortly before the pandemic started. He had spent earlier years in Massachusetts working at facilities including Harvard College Observatory as a staff engineer and MIT's Lincoln Laboratory as a research and development optician. Very well known in amateur astronomy, Mike served in the organization of the American Association of Variable Star Observers, founded by Harvard in 1911 and for many years directed by his late spouse, Dr. Janet Mattei. In his retirement Mike is building a new backyard observatory, and he is among Magdalena's most active popularizers of astronomy and Nature. Today Mike will be sharing with us regarding The Moon, in connection with NASA's annual international "Observe the Moon" Night.
